A syllabus is required for all Bioengineering courses and should be given to students by the first day of instruction. Below is an example syllabus which includes required and optional content.
The Center for Teaching and Learning also provides help with course and syllabus design.
New Course Development
New Bioengineering courses need to be approved by the BIOE curriculum committee as well as various committees at the college and university level. In addition to filling out a new course form, and providing an up to date syllabus, you will be asked to present your course to the curriculum committee for approval. Please contact Dan Ratner or Kalei Combs if you have any questions about this process.
If you course requires a course fee to pay for consumables during the quarter, the course fee must be included in your course application. If you want to add or change a course fee for an existing course you need to fill out this form and get approval from the Dean. Please work with the Academic Program Coordinator to complete this process.
Faculty teaching elective courses are encouraged to advertise their course to BIOE students and to the UW broadly. Course flyers can be effective as well as using your Canvas to publicize your individual course description. You can use Canvas for this purpose even if you do not use the Learning Management System for your course.
Course flyers can be sent to the student listservs email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org or sent to the Academic Program Coordinator with a list of departments to share more broadly.
