What is ABET?
ABET is the non-governmental organization that accredits post-secondary education Engineering programs. The UW Bioengineering BS program became accredited in 2006 and we must continually document and assess our program to meet the standards ABET requires.
ABET has certain required student learning outcomes, and each of our core classes contributes to the achievement of the learning outcomes via assigned Performance Indicators. If you are teaching a class in the BioE undergraduate core, the Academic Program Coordinator and Undergraduate Program Coordinator will contact you at the start of the quarter with information regarding the documentation you will need to provide for your course. You are encouraged to utilize your course support staff (TAs and Graders) to help you with the important task of gathering student competency data and example graded work. Typical required documents include a Course Improvement Memos (CIM), Student Competency Spreadsheet, and Example Assignments.
